About India Gate And Rajpath, Delhi
India Gate is a triumphal arch in the centre of Delhi which has become a very important representative of the city thanks to its location as well as political value. The Arch was built to commemorate the contribution of the Indian soldiers who had died in World War I as well as Afgan Wars. Later on the Amar Jawan Jyoti was also added to the premises in honor of those who had laid down their lives in the Indo- Pakistan wars. Since then, it has become a site that celebrates bravery in every shape and form.
The Rajpath is a long and clear stretch of road that leads up to the India Gate. The Annual Republic day parade passes through this prestigious terrain. To an Indian this place is a matter of pride and to any tourist the whole area has a lot of stories to tell about India and polity in India. The arch itself may not be of great beauty but it is symbolic of the history of India and in many ways it has become symbolic of India itself. The place looks exceptionally beautiful when lit up at night. During winters, people sit in the lawns surrounding India gate to enjoy the bright sun. Beautiful and stunning historical site. Though it is a war memorial, but it is indeed special in its architecture. The names inscribed on it with “INDIA” at the center top gave you filling of pride and respect for those people who die for their nation. Great to see it in sunlight. The overall environment is too good to create a long term memory. One can also enjoy the Delhi street foods near India gate. A must visit place when you are in Delhi.

The most visited National Monument at the very epicentre of the National Capital. The arched gateway is actually a military memorial to 82,000 Martyred Indian soldiers during World War I. It doubles as a family picnic spot and protest centre. Parking is available most of the time. Recently it has become the choice for artists to host events on its large, sprawling lawns. There used to be boat rides, which since has been discontinued. Ice-creams are the most sought after food item (if we can call it one) here. Also popular are bhel and other street food. Best time to visit is early morning or late evening. During winter anytime is a good time.
Excellent experience. Park your car at good safe place and beware of parking zones. You have to park about 0.500 km prior to entering the India gate surroundings. Carry your glairs, caps as you are gonna feel the heat. All the best and a warm welcome to my all Non Indian friends to India.
