Old Fort - Review
The Purana Quila or the Old Fort is a beautiful relic of the Mughal past in India. It lives up to its name and it has been recently discovered that the area on which it has been built has been inhabited since as early as 1000 BC. It is certainly the oldest of the Mughal forts. It might be that it was built nearly 5000 years ago long before the Mughals. It was Babur and Sher Shah Suri who started to renovate it.
Intricate carvings in the stone, which are typical characteristics of the Muslim architecture in India, are a wonderful sight to see. The Building of Humayun’s private library is also housed within the Purana Quila. But while the style is largely Mughal, there appear to be quite a few Rajasthani influences on the making of the Qila as well. This very eclectic mix of cultures is extremely interesting to see.
There is also a picturesque lake right outside the old fort. The place is a reminder of several eras of a glorious past all rolled into one. A definite delight for the history lover as well as culture seeker!

This a beautiful place of medieval period of Indian history. Beautiful art and architecture Peaceful atmosphere. You will feel near the nature. In the evening there is a Light and sound show. In this show one can know the brief history of the emergence of the beautiful city Delhi. There is a nominal entry ticket charges but for the Light & Sound Show ticket prices are a bit high. Duration of that show is one or one & half hour approx.
The light and sound show is definitely worth it. It's an elaborate retelling of Delhi's history of war, glory and culture. the narration is great for the most part, but the couple of songs that are interspersed with it seemed a little unnecessary. The seating is open air, so be cognizant of the weather. A massive renovation of the entrance area is also underway as of September '18, making the walk up to the Qila a bit tricky in the dark.
Lovely place if you are interested in history and monuments. Great walk. Is quite well kept. Be ready for a long walk from the parking lot to the inside. Take a look at the museum too. Best to visit this in winters or on a cool cloudy day.
This is amazing place to get tranquility and peace in the lap of nature, my many memorable memories are connected from this, We as a responsible citizen of this country, we should save our glorious history for the future generation. The preserving of this fort should start within ourselves. Whenever visiting the fort or any public place do not litter, Do not scribble anything on the wall. Make others aware about the forts. We should start all these things from us ☺☺
