The Purana Quila or the Old Fort is a beautiful relic of the Mughal past in India. It lives up to its name and it has been recently discovered that the area on which it has been built has been inhabited since as early as 1000 BC. It is certainly the oldest of the Mughal forts. It might be that it was built nearly 5000 years ago long before the Mughals. It was Babur and Sher Shah Suri who started to renovate it.

Intricate carvings in the stone, which are typical characteristics of the Muslim architecture in India, are a wonderful sight to see. The Building of Humayun’s private library is also housed within the Purana Quila. But while the style is largely Mughal, there appear to be quite a few Rajasthani influences on the making of the Qila as well. This very eclectic mix of cultures is extremely interesting to see.

There is also a picturesque lake right outside the old fort. The place is a reminder of several eras of a glorious past all rolled into one. A definite delight for the history lover as well as culture seeker!

  • Very Good place to visit. It is well maintained. And Beautiful.... Fees are Rs. 25/- for Indians and Rs. 200 for foreigners. It closes at 5:30 but we were there till 5:45. Guards starts blowing whistles around 5:25 😄 The small lake besides Fort is also good in condition. Fountains looks beautiful at night with lights and Fort behind it.😊

  • Purana Qila would charm you with its historical evidence of Delhi's grandeur and the favorite place for emperors from several generations. Each added to the beauty of the city by leaving an indelible mark of the architecture of the bygone era. The well manicured and huge lush green expanse is both attractive and welcoming. Don't miss the sound and music show in the evening. The location is idyllic and the ambience is very different from the National Zoo which is in the same campus. Ironically a lot of visitors miss this heavenly abode.

  • It's an old place . Well maintained. But I believe it somewhere or the other violates the Indian community because of the environment of love and lots of romance. Not a place to visit with family .🙏 Rest u can get beautiful pictures and it has no fort to visit , let me tell you this . U can just look from a distance , that is all . And lake is also there. Beautiful n peaceful ♥️

  • It's an old fort. Though not much of the fort remains now, steps are being taken to preserve what is left there and it is turning into a beautiful picnic spot. The lake outside the fort is renovated. Work is still going on like lighting and fountains. A walk around the lake is really rejuvenating

  • This place is a heaven..We had a great day at this place..The beauty of the monument is insane..Though this is a old build monument but it still gives a tough fight to other new monuments..It looks great at nights..But the back side of the monument is full of garbage..Garbage is dumped on the other side of this monument.. Continues maintenance is going on at this place so that it retains it's beauty..Tickets are very cheap here especially if you are a indian..Indians get a privilege in terms of service..There is a tight security at this pace and eatables are strictly prohibited..There are various photographers which take awesome pictures and they are cheap too..All food stalls are outside the main compound..All the artificial water bodies here have been closed..Otherwise this is a great place to visit..
