Literally translated as the “Lake of the Sun”, Surajkund constitutes of an ancient reservoir that is among the ancient ones in India, dating back to the 10th Century. This semicircular shaped artificial lake was constructed in the form of an amphitheater at the time of its construction and today, attracts travelers who get enamored of its beauty and historicity. This reservoir is known to be built by King Suraj Pal of the Tomar dynasty. Since the king was a worshipper of the Sun God himself, he constructed a Sun temple near the western bank of the lake. If you wish to see this place in full glory, visit it during the renowned crafts festival of Surajkund that is held every year in the month of February. Located at just about 20 km away from the city center of Delhi, this manmade lake is one of the favorite haunts for Delhiites and those who visit the city.
