Located to the south of Rastrapati Bhawan, the Teen Murti derives its name from a group of three statues of soldiers, representing the lancers of Mysore, Jodhpur and Hyderabad states. It was installed in the year 1922 as a memorial to the sacrifice of the soldiers during the First World War in Sinai, Palestine and Syria. Designed by Robert Tor Russell as a part of Edwin Lutyen’s imperial capital, this house was built as an official residence of the British Indian Army. Built in classical style, this structure was erected to reflect the military supremacy of the British Raj. Later on, this house was dedicated to be the residence of Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India.
