In the mythos of Ancient Greece, the mountain is famed as the Home of the Muses; sacred to gods Apollo, Dionysus, Pan, and the Corycian nymphs; the landfall of the ark of Deucalion from the Greek flood myth; hiding place of Orestes; hunting ground of Odysseus; and the home of winged horse Pegasus.
Today however, Mount Parnassos is famous as Greece’s largest ski resort. Wintertime, the three ski centres, Kellaria, Fterolakka, and Gerontovrachos, find alpine skiers flocking hot and heavy to their doors. Popular skiing trails are from Liakoura, 2,457 metres high, to Velitsa and Tithorea. The other trail is Gerontovrachos to Livadi.
In the summer, the mountain is favourite with hikers; there is simply no end to the trails criss-crossing the mountain. Try climbing up to the peak; it’s the only time you can do so without having to ski. There is a cycle track from the mountain to Delphi. At Livadi, there are horse farms.
In Arachnova, in addition to finding kits, tools and outfits for all the outdoor adventures the mountain has to offer. It’s also got the hottest nightlife around. And it’s the best place to stay on the mountain.
And finally, there are the innumerable villages to visit.
