Really really lovely place to stay. The Alexandria suite was amazing! Old rustic feel and great decor! One thing that really impressed me was the bathroom with a claw tub, a long shower with two shower heads and heated floor. Balcony with the futon was a nice addition as well. They have included a Hey Google device that was actually very impressive. Streamed great music through it without having to fiddle through my phone which allowed me to focus on the night. Breakfast was awesome in the morning. No complaints other than the lack of parking but it wasn't too difficult finding room around the neighboring blocks. Definitely not a deal breaker in my honest opinion. Will be visiting again very soon. Thank you Holiday Chalet for a great night here.
you might think the area looks a little rough but the service was good. The breakfast was light (But good). The room was very cool. No there were no ghost. I thought it was cool that the room we had was Google room. lights, music, soft ocean sound at night and so on was awsome. The other guest were great and visited with you. I will stay here again and would recommend it to anyone.
I loved this place!! It's in a super convenient and walkable part of town too. Staff was really chill, nice, accommodating. The rooms were gorgeous!!!!! I can't state that enough. It seems they've renovated since a lot of the reviews saying it needed renovation. I felt like it was a good price too, for what it is I expected it to be way more. I seriously can't recommend this place enough, I would definitely go back. Disclaimer: I'm awful at taking pictures, but please believe it was indeed gorgeous.
I don't like to complain but my expectations were based on an excellent time I had here 4 years ago. I think ownership has changed because it is not a B & B anymore. They had toast and cereal this time. Last time there were eggs and bacon on real plates. This time the front desk staff didn't stand up and talked to us from the back office when we walked in from about 15 feet away. Last time the owner greeted us as if we were VIPs and chit chatted. The bed was comfortable last time. This time, bed hard. Last time the dishes in the cabinet were clean. This time dishes dirty. Last time temperature in room perfect. This time the heat was cranked up to roast with no way to turn it off. There was only one towel for two guests. The dresser was broken and we couldn't use it. The TV malfunctioned, but we didn't dare ask for it to be fixed after that greeting we got at the front desk. The patio gate was broken as well as the privacy fence. 4 years ago the patio was awesome and well maintained. Not this time. Well, you get the picture. We paid a lot more for way less. The new owners need to step up their game.
We loved the historic building itself, the roomy suites, and the convenient location. However, we were there three nights and received NO maid service. We would go out for the day and come back to find the room untouched. Saturday we complained to the manager and he made the room up in the evening, leaving the dirty linens in the hallway for the rest of our stay. Sunday, before we went out, we stopped to ask that the room be made-up. No response; room was untouched when we returned late that afternoon. We gave up. The breakfast was very sketchy, deteriorating each day. We had to call both Saturday and Sunday to wake-up the manager to get more coffee made. By the time we left Monday, it was down to coffee and dry cereal. I've had better breakfasts at Motel 8's in rural Iowa. We're used to Colfax, because we used to live in Denver and it doesn't scare us. The spectacular roll-over truck crash at 3am Saturday woke us all up, but that sort of thing is to be expected. Several guests' cars were damaged, though ours was spared. However, no one at the hotel warned us not to leave our car parked at the curb on the 3rd Monday of the month, when Colfax becomes a tow-away zone in the early morning. Fortunately, we were not towed, though we received a $50 parking ticket. They have to be aware of this issue and the teeny, tiny signs on the backs of the meters that are impossible to see at night. Why not give their guests a friendly heads-up? Furthermore. though Colfax does not frighten us, we are not unaware of the need to be vigilant, and were uneasy the entire time we were there because the fire-escape door was unlock, the lock being completely absent. We reported this to the manager Friday, but he couldn't have cared less. Sorry, but that's not a bit okay. Hotel security is vital, especially for women guests, especially on a notorious street like Colfax. So, though the place has its charms, never, ever again would we stay here. Too bad.
