The Monument to Joe Louis, known also as "The Fist" is a memorial to the boxer at Detroit's Hart Plaza. It is a gigantic 24-foot-long (7.3 m) arm with a fisted hand suspended by a 24-foot-high (7.3 m) pyramidal framework. This monument is one of Detroit's iconic symbols and merits a visit.
This iconic sculpture commissioned by Sports Illustrated and was built in 1986. According to the monument's sculptor Robert Graham, it represents the power of his punch both inside and outside the ring. Because of his efforts to fight Jim Crow laws, the fist was symbolically aimed toward racial injustice.
In 2013, the value of the sculpture was between $1,000,000 and $2,000,000.

Joe Louis Monument Reviews & Ratings
My kids loved this fist! One of our favorite stops every time we visit. We try to get creative with posing. Dodging traffic is the only risk you’ll take to visit Joe’s solid knockout!
It was a fun 2 day trip to go see detroit from Toronto area. We were able to see all the attractions and stuff in just a day. Now compare to other cities in US, Detroit is a little old and run down but they have nice places to visit like belle isle island, Art galleries and nice eateries. But this place was under construction when we went if you go on the other side of the monument to Joe Louis then you can click pictures however no date on construction to be finished.
Beautiful statue, I first saw it from the road I took to get to my hotel. I knew that while I was in Detroit I would have to see this statue up close. The gold accents, green copper, and the white building behind, created a stunning effect that could leave sensitive tourists out of breath or shred a tear of joy.
Always been interested in visiting to take some cool pics. Wish it had a bit closer parking
As a fan of the videogame Detroit: Become Human (yes, I visited the monument purely because of the game, I am obsessed), it was amazing to see the monument in real life! It's located at a nice spot inbetween two roads, so you can go up next to it or walk back further and not have to worry about any cars.
