The Gospel Hill Historic District has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places and encompasses grandeur homes and old trees. The name of the street comes from the pleasant sounds that could be heard from Sampson Eagon’s blacksmith shop. There are 180 buildings that contribute to Staunton’s residential section and homes here are in abundance ranging from mansions to cottages; all of which date back to around 1840 to 1930. Notable buildings here in Gospel Hill Historic District include Capote, Kalorama, the Temple House of Israel, the Effinger House and more.
