Offering a peak into the art of 20th and 21st century, the East Wall museum has a permanent exhibition of the Fluxus, Zero and “informal art” that includes work of art by including Marcel Duchamp, Günther Uecker, Joseph Beuys, Nam June Paik, Wolf Vostell and Jean Tinguely.
The museum was established in the 1940’s and is part of the U tower in Dortmund. The collection includes a series of graphic art, sculptures, paintings, photographs and art installations that celebrate the 20th century and the world of expressionism. You can find history, stories and art merged at the museum. The Groppel Collection that is a mix of 200 paintings, sculptures and graphic art, is the main reason why art lovers frequent the museum. It is funny in way that most of the collection here was once regarded as “degenerated art” by the Nazis.
The art work of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Emil Nolde and Karl Schmidt-Rottluf, avant-garde peices by August Macke, Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, and Alexej von Jawlensky and the collection of 26 graphic painting by Pabblo Picasso along with the works of Salavdor Dali, Joan Miro, Paul Klee and Oskar Schlemmer, make it a special place for art addicts and if you truly want to see the best of world renowned artists under one roof, you will love just how much the place has to offer.
