North Anna Battlefield Park, Doswell Reviews
Its a moderate well marked path with maps provided at the trail head. Lots of interesting flora, and a cool place to take a dip and cool off.
If you like Civil War sites that about the way they were in 1865 North Anna the park will be outstanding. Two walking trails -- gray and blue. Enough information signs to explain the battlefield. The gray trail is fairly easy. The blue is much more difficult. Park trail map is online. Allow two to three hours to walk and read both trails. Bring water. No restrooms on trail. I enjoyed the walk but I study the Civil War.
This Battlefield is maintained by the local County (Hanover). One of the nicest history hiking tours i have been on. Extreemly well preserved earthworks.
Expansive hiking trail system with clearly visible wartime earthworks throughout. The site by the river where sharpshooters/skirmishers from Crittenden's Div of Burnside's IX Corps v. Mahone's Div. fought is serene. Worth visiting for that alone.
This park is a little gem tucked away outside Ashland. Fairly close to the city of Richmond that makes an easy visit. The walking trails are well paved and easy for novice hikers. There are two Trails gray which is just over two miles long and blue which is four and a half miles long. The trails are easily marked and have stops along the way to educate you on the battlefield. Highly recommended for short afternoon trip. Update: I've been to this park twice with my dog and it is infested with ticks if you go out there please make sure your dog is protected and you're protected as well.
