Chapelle Saint-Michel is a beautiful chapel that was constructed so as to sustain the loving memory of Michel le Nobletz’s who was a Breton missionary living in Douarnenez. According to the traditions, the chapel was built on the site where he lived but, it was actually built nearby. Construction began in 1663 while the altarpiece is believed to have been built somewhere around 1666. Chapelle Saint-Michel also has some of the most impressive painted ceilings that would sure leave you baffled. The volunteers here are devoted, extremely knowledgeable regarding the history of the place and are the ones who lead the guided tours. The chapel doesn’t remain open at all times and it would be best to call in advance before arriving.
