Fort d'Hirson is a fort from the 19th century that was constructed for military purposes. It is positioned 200 metres above the sea level on a small hill on the city’s edge. The structure is said to have been built somewhere between 1887 and 1880 and was intended to avert the supply rail from invaders. The fort was then decommissioned in 1912 and even got partially destroyed. It consists of a bakery, barracks, powder magazines, single and double caponiers, a turret Mougin and more. Several weapons can still be found at Fort d'Hirson.
