The historic Cavan and Leitrim Railway that ran from 1887 to 1959, outlived most of the Irish narrow-gauge lines. It was a functional 3 feet narrow gauge railway used for coal transportation to and from the Arigana Colliery. The railway now acts as a preserving museum run by volunteers who have restored the 0.4 kilometres of the track on the grounds of the old Cavan and Leitrim Rail Yard beside the Irish Rail Station. The Station House, Engine Shed and the water Tower is also restored and preserved. Other interesting features of this museum include a transport facility with narrow gauge locomotive trains of every gauge, buses, planes, fire engines and artillery guns from the first and the second World War.
