Named after the childhood friend of Krishna, the Sudama Setu is a pedestrian bridge that runs over the Gomti river and connects Dwarkadeeshwar Jagat Mandir (dedicated to Lord Krishna) to the Panchkui Tirth that consist of 5 sweet water wells associated with the Pandavas (the five brothers) from Mahabharat.
The bridge itself is 166 meters long and 4.2 meters in width. At a time, it can carry 20,000 to 30,000 people and has helped ease out traffic during the annual pilgrimage to Dwarka. Every year, on Janmashtami, the city welcomes more than 2 lakh devotees from all over India and before this bridge was built, people would use boats to cross the river. Now a minimal toll fee is all you need to pay to walk across the river. The view of Gomti from here is spellbinding especially during sunsets and if you truly want to see the banks of the small but popular city and the famous Gomti river, there is simply no better place than Sudama Setu!
