  • Great place to visit and spend some time walking along the Huckleberry Trail. The old mine is still visible but has been sealed up for safety. The history information can be found right in front of the mine. An old coal mining car and mining equipment available for observation. From the trail, walk up the curved wooden walking bridge turn right and follow the path to see the coal mine.

  • Excellent place walk, bike skate. Lot of benches to sit on. Porta John's sat up along trail

  • This is a beautiful paved flat trail that is part of the larger Huckleberry Trail that currently connects Blacksburg to Christiansburg. Parking for about 10 cars can be found at the intersection of Merrimac Rd & Hightop Rd (Huckleberry Trail Parking). Or you can park at the recycling center down 701 and have immediate access to the park via a beautiful artistic wooden foot bridge. The park is on the left and right of the Huckleberry Trail and includes an off road hiking trail called Coal Miner’s Loop which is about a mile long with mild elevation changes. There are historical markers to learn about the structures that were previously on this site and there is even a rustic restroom! Kids of all ages will enjoy this park.

  • This is a great trail! It is really nice and it’s completely paved so it is stroller friendly. Definitely something to do on a Saturday morning.

  • What a great historic trail. Great access and historical markers on well maintained route. Would recommend this informative recreation site.
