Located on the banks of the Nile River the Edfu or Idfwu city has the population of approximately 6000 people. This enchanting and historical city is famous for the Ptolemaic Temple of Edfu or Temple of Horus which dates back to 237-57 B.C. during the sovereignty of Cleopatra VII. Built of Sandstone blocks, the temple also has the remnants of the pylon of the older New Kingdom Temple. Another highlight of the city is the remnants of the provincial step pyramid on the western bank of Nile. With the height of 5.5 metres, the red sandstone pyramid was once attributed to the Third Dynasty ruler, King Huni.
