About The Potting Shed, Edinburgh

The Potting Shed is a 1957 play by Graham Greene in three acts. The psychological drama centers on a secret held by the Callifer family for nearly thirty years. The patriarch of the family is dying and James, his estranged son, appears unexpectedly. He can remember nothing about a mysterious moment that occurred in the family's potting shed when he was 14 years old. Family members who recall the event are unwilling to describe it to him. With the help of a psychoanalyst, James tries to recall just what happened that day that left him rejected by his father, alienated from his family, and alone in the world.

The Potting Shed, Edinburgh Reviews - Write a Review

  • Very nice food. Good service. Burger is spicy so watch out!

  • Went here because a friend is a celiac and it didn't disappoint - his first draft beer for decades! Food was good, but not your usual bar fare (roe deer) and quite expensive at that.

  • Good beer selection, in a warm, rustic setting. Food can be a bit pricey and the staff have been quite rude on occasion which spoilt the experience. Particularly remember a waitress getting angry after we hadn't decided on any food after 10min. She started taking the menu's, upon which I asked if we could keep one for when we were ready to order. She rudely said no, and walked off...

  • Venue is great, as is the selection of beers. The food can be equally good or bad so its frustrating. And it's not cheap for what it is. It comes served in a small wooden box which is annoying. The service I'm afraid is very poor and they struggle to get the basics right. It's a shame as it should and could be a lot better.

  • Absolutely terrible food and the service was about the same. The waitress avoided eye contact at all costs. The farm to fork connotation is ridiculous, the food is definitely shipped in, preparation packed, microwave friendly.
