Brean Down Fort has a history that dates back to mid-Bronze Age. Many artefacts related to this era were found here, and are now displayed at the Museum of Somerset in Taunton. Due to its prominent location, the fort was active and has an interesting story. It is set on the banks of Weston Bay, with Sully on the opposite side of the bay. The fort that we see today is the result of the 1860 construction. It was built so as to protect the Bristol Channel, and was used for testing weapons during the Second World War. Some of the sights within the fort include the engine house, office quarters and the gun emplacement.
