Terwillegar Community Rec Centre, Edmonton Reviews
As someone who lift weights mostly. This gym is okay with their machines and weights areas. It’s not as good as some other gyms which dedicates to weight lifting. It’s pretty packed after 4pm. But they offer a big variety of classes and other facilities like 4 ice rinks and 3 basketball courts. Their swimming pool is more friendly to kids as they have a pretty decent sized water park and diving pool. It’s a prefect place for family time and doing different things. As far as lifting goes. There are better choices out there.
Now I can’t talk about the fitness portion of this establishment, but the pool area is absolutely terrible. If you’re looking to have a good time swimming with friends or family, don’t even bother with this place. 10 dollars just for the kids to swim for a few hours isn’t worth it whatsoever, disrespectful lifeguards who make up the most ridiculous rules really put a damper on your fun. In addition, most of the pool is being taken up by little kids and their swimming lessons, or is being sectioned off for people who can’t swim. If you can’t swim, why are you even coming to a pool? Terrible service and way too overpriced, never come here.
Really great place however I have a problem with how rooms and certain pools will not be available quite often because they’re booked for something else. If you’re a regular it really really takes away from the experience because you never have full access to the facility. Also I swear almost every time I’m in there the main pool gets closed because someone either takes a dump or vomits in there. Only ever experienced this here despite many memberships elsewhere.
Came here for the pool only and was charged around $9 keeping in mind the fact that I’m 15. Ridiculous, really. There are two pools, one shallow, and one deep. The deep pool is being taken up by 80% lap lanes (that are constantly full), 10% kids practicing area (why?), and 10% for diving off into the water, and swimming to the edge. The shallow pool is very boring, and half of it is being blocked off for even more swimming lessons so that all the kids who know how to swim are crammed into one area. I went to the lap lanes with my monofin (used for freediving), and was told I wasn’t able to wear them by a rude lifeguard because I “might drown” and they don’t want to have to deal with it. Even after they saw I was able to go from one end to the other underwater just fine. Was extremely boring. Not worth the amount. Hated the experience, and I’m not coming back.
This is the first time we’ve used the swimming pool here. We live in Sherwood Park and love the facility out here but thought we would change it up. Brought our kids and several of their friends. The boys said the men's changeroom was disgusting. There were clumps of hair everywhere and feces on the floor. The kids said the pool was fun, but way too busy. Don’t think we will be back to use the pool. We will stick to our own local facility.
