El Oso Y El Madrono, Madrid Reviews

  • Cute and worth a picture when coming to Puerta del Sol. I took a picture because I was in the square anyways but would not go out of my way to visit this statue.

  • There are three statues at Puerto del Sol, the most interesting being El Oso y El Madroño (the bear and the strawberry tree) located near the Metro station on the east side of the square. The monument, which represents the city symbol of Madrid, was sculpted by Antonio Navarro Santafe and placed here in 1967. It is a 4 meter tall bronze statue of a bear standing up against the tree. The statue is placed on flat rectangular stone slab and granite pedestal. This is a neat statue to find when you are visiting Puerta Del Sol. Children will certainly enjoy it. If you enjoy viewing monuments during your travels, you can also find an equestrian statue of Carlos III in the centre of the square as well as the classical image of Mariblanca on the western end of Puerta Del Sol.

  • A nice bronze sculpture of a Bear with strawberry tree in the busy square. A must visit place i. Madrid as it is one of the identity of the city. Almost everyone knows about this in the city. The square is very busy and crowded during the sunny day. Lots of shopping options around and lots of restaurants for your gaat buds. The place is especially beautiful during the night and remains busy till very late night.

  • Lovely statue. I love bears. The symbol of Madrid located at the center of Sol square.

  • One of the best places in Madrid. Puerta del Sol is a point zero (0 km) plaque indicates of Madrid. All the action as well as the roads begin and radiate out from this happening square that is the geographical centre of Madrid. The Bear rearing up on its hind legs to nose the Strawberry Tree or Madrono as it is called in espanol you can also find on shield of Madrid.
