It was founded in 1913 and it consists of two Michigan islands which are the nesting grounds for the native bird species. 4 acres of Gravel and 23 acres of Spider islands have made this land to be occupied by large colonies of shore birds, waterfowl and great black–backed gull. The Spider islands support colonies of herring gulls and double crested cormorants which are a rare sight. Not much public intervention is allowed so as to maintain the sanctity of the place. However, go ahead to for wildlife photography which is at its best here.
