Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex, Essen Reviews - Write a Review
Not your average day trip, but quite interesting to see how they did coal mining and how it changed over a century. Very large complex and loads of things to see but you need a registered guide how can get you into the buildings. Best in a group to share the costs. Outside on top you get a great view of the area in all directions as it is quite flat. There is also a restaurant close by which is poor, and a much better one within five minutes of walking distance. Interesting location for events as well as you can rent parts of the buildings.
Great museum. Inside is a mix of modern design added to the old and spooky atmosphere of a coal mine complex. Helpful staff. Make sure to check the rooftop for some nice panoramas.
Prepare to walk a lot to see everything there's to see. I mean a lot! And spare a lot of time to try and see all cause it's really amazing!
The buildings on this site are beautiful and very interesting. The exhibition in the Ruhrmuseum is looking nice but is chaotic in its layout and not always logical. The Red Dot Design Museum is very nice and very complete but totally understaffed. I saw a lot of people touching and handling the products that were exhibited. Food and drinks are very minimal and some of the employees are not so professional and client friendly.
Great and informative guide done by somebody who has been there as it was still operational, can recommend to everyone.
