While there are many trekking and hiking destinations in the city, Ivy Creek Natural Area takes the cake for being the most popular and well-frequented one. The reason being its vast land spread over an area of 215 acres and well habituated by wildlife of various species. The preserve is jointly owned by Albemarle County and the City of Charlottesville. It was founded by the people of the city who wanted to promote and preserve the natural existence found here on the Rivanna Reservoir. Come here and walk around the wide spread pine and hardwood forests exploring the area. Not only that, there are numerous streams, natural springs and old fields to check out and witness. The preserve has six miles of walking trails and ¾ miles of paved trails for visitors so take your times and indulge in the beauty of its all. The kind of natural beauty is hardly seen anywhere else in the city.
