About Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter
Being the largest one in Exeter, this museum has displays which are worthy of being called world-class. Not only that, with modern amenities, galleries and fabulous exhibitions this museum has interesting sights for children and adults alike. Much to the delight of children; there are exotic insects, animals and birds. For adults, there are some really amusing and stunning items from around the world. Dan Cruickshank (architectural heritage consultant, writer and TV presenter) describes it as an exquisite jewel box of a building; a Venetian casket and one of the most appealing treasures in Britain. Royal Albert Memorial Museum, Exeter Reviews - Write a Review
Such a wonderful museum - free (but you will want to make a donation) - and there is always a superb art exhibition on too (may have entry fee but worth it!) Wonderful exhibits and local history. Great coffee shop and WiFi!
All the staff are really friendly and helpful, and the collection is always interesting to see, because there's so much information there'll always be something to see next time, and exhibits like the elephant and the giraffe are things kids will remember and want to come and see again and again. I recently spent the week just drawing the tiger, and have really come to appreciate the astonishing condition of the animals preserved in the museum. In addition to this there's always a new exhibition going on, so there's always something you haven't seen before.
Recently revamped at great cost. Great place to come for culture and education esp. in relation to local history. Sections have exhibits dating from WW2 right back to prehistory. There's a section for world cultures and natural history, one or two old favourites have been kept- like Gerald the giraffe. Also good for art , there is usually an changing exhibition of various subjects. There's usually something for the kids to do esp. in the holidays. Shop and cafe on site too.
Specially loved the part with the history of Exeter. Been there twice, and the staff were always incredibly nice. So delighted with my visits I wouldn't mind going back again.
An interesting and well organised museum. Definitely worth a visit if you are staying in Exeter. It is adult and child friendly. Staff are friendly and informative.
