Kiptopeke Breakwater, also known as The Concrete Fleet, is a collection of nine concrete ships lined to the west of the former Chesapeake Bay ferry terminal. The now decaying fleet was contracted by the US Maritime Commission during the Second World War and were brought in to protect the terminal during severe weather conditions. The ships now lie half-sunken about a quarter mile from the fishing pier. Visitors can rent kayaks from the pier and kayak to the ships if they want to see the fleet from up-close. Tourists can enjoy a beautiful sunset and observe the ships from the pier if they are not interested in kayaking. This is also a great place to observe coastal birds and exotic fish.
