It's funny to think of a pipeline as an attraction, but that's until you find out that this single line delivers 20% of USA's annual oil. Built in the 1970s, the 800 mile long pipeline is operated and maintained by the Alyeska Pipeline Service Co, which also organizes educational tours about it, at the Fox Visitor Centre. The main attraction for people visiting the pipeline are the 'pigs' - contraptions used to clean the pipe from the inside. And of course, you can go up to the pipe and touch it.

  • Very easy to access; the physical pipeline can be seen from the parking area. Getting to the pipeline involves no steps. The path leading to it is paved and there is only a slight incline, making it possible for those with disabilities to get as close as they choose. The area appears clean and nicely maintained. Information about the pipeline and the site is provided along with relevant images. At least one of the informative signs can be read from a vehicle. There are no restroom facilities or picnic tables, and there is no shelter of any kind.

  • If you have never seen a pipeline, I suppose it's perfect for that. If you are going by, stop, but don't make a special trip. I really wanted to give it 2.5 stars but that isn't possible so I gave it 3 because I felt 2 was too harsh. It's a pipeline after all...

  • The name says it all. You can get up close and personal with the pipeline here. You can't see too far down it from here, but there are some interesting informational stands as well. Time to learn about the Pipeline!

  • Wish there was more information, but truly a must-see if you are in the area. Incredible to see such an important engineering feat that contributes to the nation's lifestyle

  • It was a well put together informative display. There was more to it than I expected... And no fee 🙂
