Running Reindeer Ranch - Review
About 25 minutes from Downtown, Jane and Doug, who run the farm, have been at Fairbanks for decades. In that time, they have nurtured a deep love for Alaska and its treasures, in particular, reindeers. The magnificent animals are treated like family at the ranch. During your visit, Jane will take you on a walk through the birch forest where the beasts live, and impart deep insight into the animal's adaptations in the Alaskan climate. Reported experiences of this walk are almost universally enthusiastic; it's said to be one of Fairbank's indispensable attractions. After the walk, there's hot coffee/chocolate back at the ranch.

Running Reindeer Ranch, Fairbanks Reviews
I just want to thank Jane, Doug, and Alex for an awesome experience. We are on a Cruise tour and arrived one day early to explore Fairbanks on our own. After seeing previous reviews, I knew this was an experience we did not want to miss. Once I started looking into the Running Reindeer Ranch I had noticed that on the extra day that we had set aside, they were closed. I had sent an email to see if they would be opening up a spot. Doug was very efficient at responding and actually opened up the day that we were available. When I booked online, I actually entered the wrong date. (I booked for one month earlier than what was needed.) Since Doug and I had communicated several times, he actually made me aware of my mistake and actually fixed it for me, where I did not have to do anything else. (Thanks Doug for catching this.). The tour itself was very educational and I learned a lot about reindeer that I never knew. There are wooden benches spread throughout the walk which were a blessing for my mother who has a difficult time walking. When it came time for the pictures with the reindeer, Jane actually allowed my mother to remain seated and they brought the reindeer over to her so she was not left out. Thanks once again to Jane and Doug for opening up your house and sharing your reindeer with others. One tidbit is that the tour is up a slight incline, but once again, there are benches spread throughout the walk.
What a fabulous experience. Jane was a wonderful guide sharing her experiences with both the reindeer and the natural Alaskan environment. What an extraordinary evening to walk through the woods side by side with reindeer. It is well worth the time.
This was the highlight of my trip to Alaska. I learned so much about Reindeer that I feel that I have a pretty good general understanding on them. I enjoyed the ability to walk with them and to watch their behavior. What is best about Running Reindeer is knowing that my visit doesn't negatively impact them (like things such as riding elephants or pictures with wild animals). I also liked that they are "family" and will not be eaten after I leave. I had a lovely time and would recommend this to everyone visiting Fairbanks.
We saw the reindeers from the tour boat as we weren’t stopping at the ranch. However the reindeers looked healthy and well taken care off (shedding season). The gate they are in is for the tour viewing only. They have a huge ranch to run around freely all the other times.
I can not possibly say enough about this whole experience. I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. In -20 below temps it felt warm and this is why.... Jane intertwined knowledge with meaningful stories and her passion for these beautiful creatures. I can't even describe it in words.
