Chautauqua Gorge State Forest Reviews & Ratings
This must be a locals party place. We camped here for one night and people partied way past 4am. Might be a cool spot to hike but would not camp here again. Picture of one of the rowdy camp sites the next morning. Cannot believe the mess they made. I hope they left it better than they found it.
I rate this sight as a 1 simply because it falsely represents the C G State Forest. All but one of the photos are taken on PRIVATE LAND. The State Forest property does not include the creek except where access is only available by falling or rappelling down a cliff. Access to the creek therefore is only made by trespassing through posted private properties. I know, as my father was the major property owner. If you read the State Forest's billboard at the Hannum Road access, bottom line on the sixth and last page simply states that the trail towards the creek ends on private property.
Pretty location, steep but short hike down to the creek at the bottom of the gorge. Came and enjoyed the scenery since I was already nearby but wouldn't go out of my way to come here.
Awesome camping. Great for whole family. Needs cleaner bathroom facilities. But over all excellent spot.
We were out geocaching. Lots of nice geo paths on the rails to trails in Chautauqua county.
