The White Desert is, like the name betrays, a desert in Egypt which has multitudes of rock formations that rise up to the skies from the white surface of the desert floor. One can have some great fun, imagining weird and interesting shapes in the rock formations of the desert. The sunlight also changes the color of the dunes and plays quite a few tricks on the untrained eyes. The best way to enjoy the desert is either to visit it during the daytime and witness all the rock formations or just camp it out like a champ under the Egyptian sky, accompanied by Bedouin food and music.

  • I booked by adventure through Golden Bird Tours who provided a personal guide/translator. Did the Black and slept in the newer section of the White. The limestone rock figures are amazing. Rabbit, chicken, turtle, faces, Crystal Mountain (quartz) mushroom City. The sunset & sunrise we're beautiful. The quiteness, stillness and the wildlife during the night was great.

  • One of most spectacular deserts in the world. A must-visit place in Egypt beside famous ancient temples. I'll never forget the trip to white desert. It's truly the "snow" on the Sahara.

  • Some people think desert is a boring, monotonous place with nothing interesting to see. Well, go to the White Desert in Egypt to find an exciting one. Yes, there is sand but also limestone rocks and sculptures made by natural erosion as well as crystals scattered on the sand. Early morning the limestone gets pink, then shiny warm white during the day, turning purple and ice-white as the sun goes down. Stay overnight in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the wonders of nature. Remember to notice the stars at night; in this desert, far from the light smog of cities, you will see many more than usual, bright and shiny. Stay for few days admiring the art not created by men (remember to take a lot of water for this trip!), then continue to the Farafra Oasis and enjoy its mineral springs. After days in the desert, the Farafra Sunrise Hotel with its beautiful colorful garden feels like a paradise.
