Built in the 13th century, the Arco de Repouso was more of an addition by Afonso III to the pre-existing defense walls of the city, built by the Moors to defend the city from intruders.
The gateway is called the ‘Resting Arch’ and is known to have the oldest walls of the city and serves as the gate from where you leave the Old Town. Take a walk along the Arc to touch a small part of history so easily overlooked by the on-going crowd.
