Fes was once the capital of Morocco and one monument bearing witness to its privileged status stands tall north of the city. The Borj Nord is a part of the ancient wall that stood guarding Fes from her enemies. It was built in the 16th century. Today, the watchtower is the largest weapons museum in Africa. It houses around 5000 arms not only from Morocco but from armouries in India, Europe and other countries in Asia. Most of the arms are donated by royal families. Hence, you can see jewelled daggers, intricately decorated rifles etc. in the collection. Some of these were used by the rulers themselves. The biggest weapon in the building the 5-meter long cannon that weighs approximately 12 tons. From the upper terrace, you can see the medina and other parts of Fes.

  • Most of the signboards are in French and Arabic. Get a reliable guide if you want to understand the history of the weapons.
  • Do check out the view from the upper terrace.

  • This castle is worth of visit, because the panoramic view to the old Medina and surrounding, and the visitors had better start the tour early in the morning that's gonna make a gorgeous day! In the exhibition we saw a serial weapons display through the major war-period of times in Morocco. What a complicated feeling to learn that people has invested so much efforts and dedicated their live to destroy one another.

  • Nice Museum! Great view! Entry costs 10DH that's $1. The thing that stroke me most is the great display of weapons in chronological order of invention. So you can see how much effort has been made to come to what is here today. There is a cafe upstairs and you have access to the roof which gives some amazing views of the city.

  • What a find! A Moroccan arms and armaments museum full of amazing artefacts. Also lots of things from Europe and the Middle East. Very well set out. Unfortunately no English introductions, but well worth a visit. View of Fes from the roof was spectacular. Very helpful staff.

  • Interesting museum with a wide variety of historic weaponry on display. Small entry fee which is definitely worth it. Beautiful views of Fez from the roof of the building. Would need at least a couple of hours in this fantastic place. Taxis are available outside and charge a reasonable amount to the medina.

  • Old fortresses overlooking the old city of Fes. Great views from the top and a weapons museum with a very good collection inside. Takes about 15-20 minutes on foot from the Blue gate.
