A long (18 kms) expansive beach situated on Turkish Riviera, Patara is a must visit for those who want to witness the Mediterranean coast in all its beauty and splendour. Once the main port of western Lycia, the site is also considered to be the birthplace of St. Nicholas, and has thus has come to be recognised as an amalgam of Roman and Christian tradition. What’s more, the beach envelops ancient ruins of Lycia reminding us of the glorious Roman Empire in the country. The ruins consist of:
- Excavated theatre
- The seat of Oracle
- Vestiges of Castle
- Triumphal gate
- A necropolis (cemetery) with Lycian tombs
- A ruined basilica
- A public bath
- Parliament Building
