Florence has a Mediterranean climate, so expect summer to have high temperatures and sunny days while winter is colder and damper. July and August are the hottest months (around 30 C). The best time to visit Florence is from May to October when the warm weather means alfresco dining, art festivals and the type of Italian that inspired so many painters. Sadly, the warm weather also means sweltering heat, swarms of tourists and increased hotel rates. If you decide to visit in autumn or winter, you will enjoy lower rates and fewer people, but the weather will not be as pleasant.
