The world’s oldest pharmacy still in operation (more than 700 hundred years and counting), and going strong. It’s just around the corner from the church’s main entrance. Stepping in is like stepping into a different world, a different era. The distillation methods the monks use are ancient; their tools simple. They keep their recipes in simple looking ledgers; and lotions and liquids are kept inside old containers. Yet the aroma of the perfumes they make is said to be sublime. The soaps, lotions moisturisers and perfumes to be sold line the frescoed walls. Inside, there’s also a small museum dedicated to the history of the pharmacy. There are exhibits on discontinued equipment.
