Though named after Florence’s primary church, this square is an attraction in its own right. It’s surrounded on all sides by the Duomo complex – the Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistery of St. John, the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, and the Loggia del Bigallo. Also important are the Palazzo dei Canonici, the Palazzo Archivescovile, and the Palazzo Strozzi di Mantova. The main activity here, before or after you’ve finished with visiting all these buildings, is to people watch. The square is never, ever, empty during the day, and people of every kind visit it.

  • A beautiful place dominated by white Cathedral its extraordinary dome and the tall Campanila. The best time to come here is at 7-8am. Otherwise is truly crowded especially with queues before the entrance to Duomo and its dome. There are many souvenirs shops and cafes around the place. To eat here is rather expensive - better to walk a bit further in the streets leading away from Piazza.

  • It's a beautiful place and extremely touristy. The markets it pretty good and lots of local options to shop from. Or you can just sit there and enjoy the place and energy around you. I would love to visit the place again.

  • Wow, amazing place! The “hike” to the top of the dome was interesting to say the least. Based on the narrowness of the stairs you can tell that it wasn’t intended to be a tourist attraction. I like how they one stair case for the most part for going up and one for going down. Great view from the top even at night.

  • One of the prime examples of beautiful architecture that influenced many others to come. This piece of architecture was created before the invention of gravity and only a jeweler could figure it out. I won't say anymore, but the view from the too is incredible. You have the book your tickets with a guide a couple days ahead of time!

  • Walking up to the church is a stunning experience. It’s absolutely massive. The lines are really long though. But there are many things to do in the area and many restaurants to eat at.
