30 minutes drive out of Florence is Tuscany’s favourite wedding venue – The Vincigliata Castle. It’s a medieval construct, thought to be built around 1031 AD, that fell to ruins. Restored in the 19th century, it was used as Prisoner of War camp from 1941-1943. A number of prominent captives were held here, and their escape plans and attempts are stories worthy of movies. Right now though, its romantic scenery makes it much more suited to nuptials, wine-tastings, and gala dinners.
Trivia: The ghost of a star-crossed lover, Bianca, is said to haunt the walls.

My wife and I are going to walk to the castle. Is there a specific entry point? Is there an entry fee involved? Do we need to book a time to go there or is it just open to the public?
