The Creag Meagaidh National Nature Reserve spreads from the Lock Laggan to the summit of Creag Meagaidh that stands at height of 1130 meters and has 12 peaks. The reserve is simply the best of the highlands wrapped into one beautiful place! The mountains carved out by the glacier are a luscious green all year round and along with a whaleback ridge that surrounds the great bowl of Coire Ardair and can be accessed by 3-mile path.
The beautiful woodland area is home to birch and ancient alder trees along with willow scrub, alpine speedwell, Highland cudweed, alpine woodsia and arctic moss. The woodland supports lichen population with over 100 different species found in the area. The wildlife of the place is astounding! You can find golden plover, black grouse, twite, meadow pipits, siskins, eagles and ptarmigan here along with other beautiful birds. Sightings of deer, wild cats, pine martens, red squirrel and otter are common and complete the off-beat pathways of the reserve. The river banks are perfect for a picnic or simply to take a break from the long walk while the scenic views from almost anywhere around the reserve, makes for an ideal photography spot especially for wildlife lovers.
