Cicerello's, Fremantle Reviews
Great location. It's almost always busy but the food turns up within a reasonable time. The fish that is used in the 'fish & chips' is frozen on the boat immediately after being caught - it's not frozen fish from the store. It tastes nice. The food is a little bit expensive but you're paying a premium for the location. Even so I think it's the most reasonably priced of the big fish restaurants by the marina. The kids portions are good, however if you have very young kids then it might be best to split an adult portion between two of them. My recommendation is the curry fish fillet. I would definitely have this again!
I've been going to Cicerello's since I was a kid - many decades ago! - but yesterday's visit will be my last. I'm giving it the second star because the location is still magic. However, the quality and price of what should be their signature dish - fish 'n' chips - has gone markedly downhill. Even a year ago, one got real chips and a generous serving of well-cooked fish. Now, however, one gets french fries rather than real chips and a couple of thin, small pieces of frozen fish at a price that is thirty, if not, forty percent higher than it would be for similar offerings in any number of places throughout the metro area.
Fish and chips are awesome. Big enough for 2 people to share a single serving. Very busy and great atmosphere.
After travelling around Australia we found these the best priced, best tasting fish & chips. Would advise if buying for kids get the half fish & Chips NOT the fish strips (yuk). My sister in law waited AGES for her grilled fish which really shouldn't have cost so much more than the standard fish & Chips (but it did). Would definitely go back!
Beware the raw oysters - "fresh oysters opened daily" in our case meant that they had been sitting in the fridge for two+ days before being opened. You could see the slime as you lifted the meat from the shell, they tasted terrible, and pose a health risk too. We spoke to the person in charge, who told us they sometimes kept oysters that long when they couldn't source fresh ones. He asked us to fill out the feedback form so that the owner could contact us to speak further and to organise a refund - a call we're still waiting for.
