Built in 1964, this was the original Fukuoka Tower, and it's still one of the city's major landmarks. 103 metres high, with the observation deck at about 70 metres from the ground, the tower is worth a quick look, especially as entry is free. Don't expect the bells and whistles of the more illustrious new Fukuoka Tower. In fact, this is now much more appreciated for it's non-tourist-trap vibe. The charm is further heightened by the tower's kitschy red color. Whether you're here at day or night, the view is magical.
