When a city is as urbanised as Fukuoka is, lush green spaces are a welcome and rare retreat. This makes the landscaped fields of Ohori Park the city's most precious attraction. Beautiful and welcoming in every season, the tranquil park is built around the lake-moat of the old Fukuoka Castle, the remnants of which are on the grounds.

There's a lot to do. Visit the Art Museum there. The Japanese Garden is on the south side. Rent a vessel from the boathouse and row out the to the middle of the lake, or to one of the three islands. The Gokoku shrine is very pretty, down the pathway from a massive toriii gate.

But after all these are covered, the most satisfying activity is to simply stroll. Elegant chinese bridges link the outer two kilometre long path to the islands. The park's appeal evolves with the passing months. In spring, the cherry blossoms attract a large crowd, as does the annual fireworks display in August, when the people turn up in traditional dresses.

  • Beautiful park. By far The best landmark in Fukuoka city. Well worth a couple of hours. Stroll on the water edge of the lake and you will find a Starbucks coffee right on the water edge on the eastern side. In the South East corner of the park is the Japanese garden...a recreation of a garden design from the middle ages including a stone garden and a tea house where you can enjoy a cup Japanese macha. At the eastern edge of the park lies the ruins of the Fukuoka castle. Climb to the top to get a beautiful panoramic view of the city and the park. Really lovely during the sunset or sunrise.

  • Really love this park, there were lots of spots to go.. running path, big lake, good Japanese garden, big playground, wide roads, lots of birds, ducks and big fishes on the lake.. great place to go with kids, partner, big family or even going alone and enjoy the scenery.. the sunset view was also stunning! You can rent a duck boat as well, ride along the lake slowly.. good place to sit down and relax.....

  • A perfect place to finish the day by watching the sunset. In the park you can also go for running. I've been the whole day walking so I just relaxed.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed walking around this park when I was in Fukuoka. Did a few laps viewing all the wildlife from koi, turtles, various insects and birds. Incredible statues and trimmed plants. Take the time to relax at Starbucks or on a park bench.

  • Beautiful park and lake. We went there on the weekend for a short walk and coffee. I definitely recommend you going there if you’re in town! Tips: 1. Go to the Starbucks located right on the lake, grab a cup of coffee and walk around. 2. If you’re into running, this is the place for you. We saw dozens of people running around the lake.
