This Charming arcade is the local fish market, it is also known as Hakata's pantry, or Fukuoka's kitchen. Which was started early in the twentieth century when one man set up 1 fish stores, and seen his success other vendors opened up their own stores around him. Eventually this group into the market you see today - butchers, fish stores, greengrocers. Give each stall a considered look. They all have their specialty dish and will be happy to talk about it with you. There's even of drinks store where you can buy wine or alternatively you could buy tea to wash down your food. If you arrive in the afternoon when the crowd has diminished you might be able to shop for good discounts.
