USS Nautilus (SSN-571) is a nuclear- powered submarine. Famous for being the first of its kind, it was the first operational one. What stands today as a museum ship, was the first submarine to complete a transit to the North Pole in the year 1958. It was given the title of a National Historic Landmark in 1982, two years after it was decommissioned. Part of the ship can be toured by visitors, and this is a unique, exciting opportunity as it gives you exposure to how things work underwater. There are some parts of the ship which may not be open due to safety concerns, be sure to take a guided tour here to make the most of it.
