Crane Bar - Review

The locals’ favourite watering hole. But more than drinks are on the menu – music is played live practically every night on the first floor. The ground floor is reserved for the bar. Amateur musicians may entertain the bar below, and the atmosphere is more relaxed. Upstairs however, there’s an almost concert like vibe every night after 9:30pm – quiet, respectful, serious.

The performers may be local or international, but they’ll always be good. Mostly though, the music is classic Trad. The music can play on until the early hours of the morning. No wonder this place is a first stop for most tourist who want a taste of Galway’s music. Arrive early… the place is almost always packed by 9pm.

Crane Bar, Galway Reviews

  • We wandered over here after dinner and enjoyed some terrific live music until closing. Drinks and service were great, something for everyone including our cider fans. It's just a short walk over the bridge from Galway Center and yet it feels worlds away from the bustle. Recommended.

  • True Irish experience! We were visiting from Boston and had gone to many pubs that were catering to Americans. We didn't go to Ireland to here covers of American music. So we were delighted to hear traditional Irish music!

  • Great pub with a healthy mix of local and tourist. Music session had good variety of styles due to large band (started at 10 and was 13 when we left). Very popular so arrive early.

  • A great place for traditional Irish live music. Lovely musicians at this traditional place. Loved the atmosphere over all, it's a place which is filled with life and appreciation. Loved it totally.

  • We really enjoyed this place! Great traditional music upstairs, and not in the midst of the tourist area.
