This museum tower, dedicated to the history of fishing in Galway, and the only one of its kind in Ireland, was established on 1850s. Over the years, it fell into disrepair and was almost demolished. However, locals who recognised its architectural and historical heritage were determined to save it; after a long period of renovation, the cute tower has been opened up again.
The museum is unique and the guide is highly informative. You wouldn’t think that such a subject could be fun and engaging, but the presentations and the exhibits are an absolute delight. Aside from that, the view of Galway from the top floor alone is worth the trip.
