At first glance, there is nothing remarkable about this humdrum looking bridge. But it’s actually a place of pilgrimage! – not religious, but film. “The Quiet Man” was a classic John Wayne movie, much of it set on the Irish countryside, and this was one of the iconic filming locations. Fans of the film from around the whole world come to visit the bridge.
It’s not exactly close – 25 km from Galway on N59, 5km past Oughterard. Look for the sign-post "LEAM"/L5328; it is on the left hand side, about 50-100 metres off the main road. Click pictures of yourself on and around the bridge, have a picnic, and go on your way.
