Tashiding Monastery - Review

The Tashiding Monastery is one of the many pretty ones worth seeing around Gangtok. Located atop a hill, the place overlooks the stunning Rangeet River that makes it not only a very important religious spot but also a wonderful, calm and serene tourist attraction. The building is colorful and artistically decorated. It has a holy chorten (stupa), named as Thong-Wa-rang-Dol. Buddhist believes that a glimpse of this stupa can wash away all your sins. Don’t miss out the stone plates (manis) that have Buddhist mantras engraved on it.

Tashiding is considered to be one of the holiest places in Sikkim. Located near Pelling it is about a 2 hour ride from Bangkok and a journey well worth taking. It is the center point of the Jhang –ter lineage of Tibetan Buddhism making it culturally very significant.

So, the place is ideal for just about anyone. Whether you are a culture seeker, and art lover, nature lover or just love pretty places, the Tashiding Monastery is a definite must visit for one and all.

Tashiding Monastery, Gangtok Reviews

  • I am a Buddhist and I like it it's beautiful be

  • Oldest, Tashiding means “The Devoted Central Glory” and the monastery by this name was founded in 1641 by Ngadak Sempa Chempo Phunshok Rigzing who belonged to the Nyingma sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Ngadak was one of the three wise men who held the consecration ceremony crowning the first King of Sikkim at Yuksom. It was extended and renovated in 1717 during the reign of the third ChogyalChakdor Namgyal.

  • Good meditation, beautiful, but dark paintings inside, nice area to walk around and several hidden treasures.

  • Monastery truly blessed by Guru Padmasambhava (Guru Rempochee) and the cave where he had done long-life medidation ! #Tashiding #Sikkim #Darjeelicious

  • Just mesmerising 💕
