Covering a distance of 520 meters from the northern entrance of Partnachklamm up to Graseck, the Graseckbahn is the first fully automatic cable car in Germany. The cable car was designed by Karl Peter in 1953 and its gear and operation were demonstrated at a test facility in Batschuns before being implemented as a means of transport in the Alps. The valley station of Graseckbahn lies at an elevation of 756 meters above the mean sea level while its station on the mountain reaches an elevation of 903 meters above the mean sea level- offering you a stunning view of the Partnachklamm gorge and the lush-green Alpine forests amidst the rest of the mountain peaks of the Alps. The rock sections of the cliffs (notice the heavily bedded sedimentary rocks) add to the spectacle while the sheer feeling of being in a vehicle that zooms past the valley 1000’s of feet below your feet, make this a must on your “things to do in Germany” list!
