The Jet d’Eau is certainly what most people would identify Geneva tourism with. It is one of the most popular and most fascinating things to see in the city. The fountain is located on the Lake Geneva where it empties into the Rhone River.

This huge jet of water has been gracing the city since 1886 but it wasn’t always a fountain. Originally built as a valve to relieve water pressure, it was only later that it became such a popular landmark. Although it is only operated in the day for most of the year, if you are visiting in spring you are in for a real treat when they light the fountain and the surrounding area up.

Interestingly it can be seen from almost anywhere in the city due to the height of 140 meters that the water reaches. However, do not go too close to this one since you are in danger of getting pretty drenched due to its massive flow.

The Jet d’Eau fountain has the maximum height of 140 meters with the velocity of 200 Km/h. The pump rate is about 500 liters per second. The total power of both the pumps is 1000kW. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Geneva itinerary 1 day.

  • cool place to see! you probably won't miss it if you're visiting Geneva! One of the most popular spots to check out here. Take a walk along the river on a nice day and you can do some people watching here again.

  • The view from the pier is fantastic, all of the city and lake is in sight. It is especially great during the hot days, when I recommend renting a little motorboat or a pedal boat from the nearby dock, and enjoying a light mist falling from the fountain or going for a swim. Also, it does not disappoint during the dark nighttime, when it is lit up with very enjoyable light shows.

  • One of the main attractions to visit at Geneva if you are there. I recommend to pass close to the jet only during summer period. I made the mistake to pass there in winter and get the cold from days after. But really a wonderful monument.

  • This is a thing I see first if I think of Geneva and close my eyes. The fountain is seen from almost any place in the city. I tried to get close to it, but it was dangerous, so I stopped 10 meters away from gate/barrier and returned wet and cold. So, be aware of it and prepared. From close point its power looks as impressive as it is.

  • Very impressive fountain, located along a very pleasant walk around the lake. As it was a nice warm day, we walked past the fountain along the little path to see it from another angle and got pretty wet in the process. There is a cafe just before the path to the fountain which had nice drinks and a great view of fountain.
