The Jet d’Eau is certainly what most people would identify Geneva tourism with. It is one of the most popular and most fascinating things to see in the city. The fountain is located on the Lake Geneva where it empties into the Rhone River.

This huge jet of water has been gracing the city since 1886 but it wasn’t always a fountain. Originally built as a valve to relieve water pressure, it was only later that it became such a popular landmark. Although it is only operated in the day for most of the year, if you are visiting in spring you are in for a real treat when they light the fountain and the surrounding area up.

Interestingly it can be seen from almost anywhere in the city due to the height of 140 meters that the water reaches. However, do not go too close to this one since you are in danger of getting pretty drenched due to its massive flow.

The Jet d’Eau fountain has the maximum height of 140 meters with the velocity of 200 Km/h. The pump rate is about 500 liters per second. The total power of both the pumps is 1000kW. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Geneva itinerary 1 day.

  • What is most fascinating about the Geneva water fountain is how the city succeeded in creating a permanent rainbow in its center! It can’t be a bad day if there’s a rainbow in the sky, and thus I applaud Geneva for crafting such a fool proof city centerpiece. Weird how more cities haven’t caught on yet. Stand right under it for the full double rainbow effect

  • Go as close as you can, enjoy the water stream. To view the whole lake that a nearby small boats take you from a to b, b to c...n is free too or just sit along the bank, watching the world go by. That a small garden at the other end of the lake worth visiting if you want some quiet moment from the traffic noise. Lot of art works display along the lake, don't forget to visit the town old climbing train Family friends n colleagues visited in different months of the year, all love it, difference angle different views of the lake! Visiting time either not too early nor too late, water fountain asleep!

  • A great option for evening out. This place is lined with restaurants and luxury shops. Sit by the lake enjoy the view. There are also some rides for small kids. Parking can be tricky so plan ahead and wear walking shoes :)

  • A great landmark! The fountain provides a lot of great photo opportunities. Its a great place to take your family for a great experience and great family photos! Check out the pier nearby to feed the geese and get some Gelato and put your feet in the water. If you are in Geneva, this is a must see spot! It is also great to take pictures if you are passing by it on a boat on the lake.

  • Geneva without seeing the water fountain is nothing. Once reached Geneva this was our first visit me and my parents. We thought it's only a small fountain but it is actually really big and really great to see. Walking all the way from the main center until reaching the fountain and standing under it is worth it. Don't forget your camera because visiting without taking pictures is nothing.
