The Jet D Eau - Review
The Jet d’Eau is certainly what most people would identify Geneva tourism with. It is one of the most popular and most fascinating things to see in the city. The fountain is located on the Lake Geneva where it empties into the Rhone River.
This huge jet of water has been gracing the city since 1886 but it wasn’t always a fountain. Originally built as a valve to relieve water pressure, it was only later that it became such a popular landmark. Although it is only operated in the day for most of the year, if you are visiting in spring you are in for a real treat when they light the fountain and the surrounding area up.
Interestingly it can be seen from almost anywhere in the city due to the height of 140 meters that the water reaches. However, do not go too close to this one since you are in danger of getting pretty drenched due to its massive flow.
The Jet d’Eau fountain has the maximum height of 140 meters with the velocity of 200 Km/h. The pump rate is about 500 liters per second. The total power of both the pumps is 1000kW. Also, visit the popular attractions in the city by following Geneva itinerary 1 day.

The Jet D Eau, Geneva Reviews
Very impressive fountain, located along a very pleasant walk around the lake. As it was a nice warm day, we walked past the fountain along the little path to see it from another angle and got pretty wet in the process. There is a cafe just before the path to the fountain which had nice drinks and a great view of fountain.
If you walk from the main train station you might need about 25 minutes to reach the fountain. There are a lot of tourists there (and the day I visited also pickpockets!) but it is magnificent! From there you have a nice view of the buildings on the other side of the lake. Depending on the wind you might get wet so beware! Along with St. Pierre's Cathedral, this water fountain is one of the city's landmarks so you better not miss it!
So beautiful. There were swans and some other beautiful birds. Lots and lots of boats. Didn't plan on getting wet here but we got close to see it, the wind changed direction and before we knew it we were soaking wet. Loved it though! One of the most beautiful places in Geneva. My pictures are in my DSLR. Will upload later.
Nice to take the children out there on a hot day. Even then the spray probably cools you down too much to enjoy it for anymore than a few minutes. The fountain itself is an icon of Geneva and able to be seen from a very long distance away. The thing that does let this icon down is that the beach near the fountain has rubbish on it and should be looked after better so that the children can swim in the shallows whilst you enjoy the crepes, icecream or a cold drink on a hot summers day.
A wonderful age old setup for releasing excess pressure from the turbine now became a tourist attraction. Worth to visit such a huge jet column of water around 60 mtrs. This column height varies depends on the wind speed and the climate conditions. One can see beautiful rainbows through the falling water dew. This lake is full white ducks.
