The Jet d’Eau is certainly what most people would identify Geneva tourism with. It is one of the most popular and most fascinating things to see in the city. The fountain is located on the Lake Geneva where it empties into the Rhone River.
This huge jet of water has been gracing the city since 1886 but it wasn’t always a fountain. Originally built as a valve to relieve water pressure, it was only later that it became such a popular landmark. Although it is only operated in the day for most of the year, if you are visiting in spring you are in for a real treat when they light the fountain and the surrounding area up.
Interestingly it can be seen from almost anywhere in the city due to the height of 140 meters that the water reaches. However, do not go too close to this one since you are in danger of getting pretty drenched due to its massive flow.
The Jet d’Eau fountain has the maximum height of 140 meters with the velocity of 200 Km/h. The pump rate is about 500 liters per second. The total power of both the pumps is 1000kW.

Landmark & the largest fountain of Geneva. The night view is Awesome. Jet d'Eau is one of the tallest fountain in the world. ... Soon after being finished, the fountain became the symbol of strength, ambition and vitality of Geneva and Switzerland. Its strong engines pump 500 liters of water per second to the height of 140 meters
It's iconic and a must see! Take M2 boat line (included in the public transport ticket you'll get at your hotel/hostel) across the lake and you'll go right past it! It's magnificent.
If you're in Geneva, you have to see this! Iconic, dramatic and featured in the credits of 1970's TV series "The Champions". Check the "Schedule of the Jet d'eau" to tell when it's working - but seeing it power down is pretty spectacular as well.
Nice.to see this. When we visited the wind.direction was changing soon much that the water sprinklers were showering on us as a huge down pour... Liked it
Very beautiful! It's kinda scary to stand under it but it's huge fun! Must see if you're in Geneva!
