Tai Tong Restoran 大东酒家, George Town Reviews

  • The food is good, but prepare to wait for about a half hour for the main course because the place is usually crowded. If you’re unsure of the serving, go with small. The small serving usually enough for two people. The dim sum is recommended here. There are no people to help you sit. In case you arrived when all table are taken, just look around and when a table is finished just wait by its side and sit down as soon as the other guests left. And don’t get startled when you hear loud bang when the waiters collect plates. They take the plates and just put it down in trolley, hence the loud sound.

  • They have pretty good dim sum here. Looks like a restaurant that has been around for many years and still preserving their style. They are creative to decorate the entire ceiling with lanterns for the upcoming Mid Autumn festival. In fact the lanterns are for sale. Definitely insta worthy place. Food wise they have a few waitresses pushing the carts around for customers to select what they want to eat. Can be a bit packed during weekends and car park can be quite challenging. If you are visiting from elsewhere, perhaps taking a cab will be easier.

  • Poor attitude from the boss. I am well aware that the human power is short handed in busy Sunday morning but the way the boss handle is terrible. I can see the poor service crews are over filled with tasks. And I have to salute to those service crews with good attitude towards customers. At least, better compare to the boss. Recommended for those want can wait and with good patience. 1 star for the boss. 5 stars for the crews.

  • The buns were really excellent. My favorite dish by far. The carts are pretty slow going around and unfortunately a lot of the dim sum wasn’t hot. They had everything I wanted to eat so I was happy with the variety. Would definitely recommend visiting this place if you have a dim sum craving!

  • Service is poor and also staff's attitude. The carts take forever to reach your table and when they do they're almost empty. So basically its a self service restaurant. Food is indeed nice, thus the 1 star.
