Just the name "Glacier Bay" made me want to visit, it sounds beautiful, and it is! My wife and I went on a cruise in June 2018 and spent a day slowly exploring the Bay. We spent part of our time in a common area of the ship listening to a local guide from the National Park Service describe the history of the area. It was amazing to learn that the entire bay was a glacier just 250 years ago as a result of the "mini ice age" that happened during the Revolutionary War. The remainder of the time we spent on our balcony enjoying the sites. We saw the glaciers and ice that had calved from them all around the ship. The ice is an incredible blue color. We saw a large number of sea birds, otters, and a family of brown bears (through binoculars) walking along the beach. We saw whales breaching on the way into the bay. The weather the day we went was bright and sunny, with the temperature in the high 50's Fahrenheit. Glacier Bay was one of the highlights of the trip, and I hope to return someday to see the bay again along with the national park.
